In God We Trust vs no In God We Trust?

I'm torn, I want to buy a St. Gaudens but I'm not sure what I should go for. I'm looking at a 1908 without "In God We Trust" for $1450 and a 1910 with "In God We Trust" for $1550. Both look to be in the same condition. What's the general consensus? I feel like Charlie Brown, "Do I attempt kicking the football or not?"

It's a hundred bucks cheaper, and it's a better looking coin.

I chose without the motto simply because it has more story to it, more of a conversational piece

OK, so this is what I got.

The buy now price was $1450, starting price was $1300.

Thanks, I think I and my wife will really enjoy holding some "history". I can't wait to put it side by side with a UHR and comparing them. I was in touch with the seller the entire time. He/she, was very responsive, so I wasn't too concerned with the fact that only 186 sales were attributed to this seller. Besides, what's gonna happen when I post my first "For Sale" item. I do have 107 buys though with 100% feedback rating.

Gold is gold.

I was the one who voted for the 1910. It's the oldest we have and we're planning to celebrate more it's turning 100 than the new year.

MISRy, congrats on holding a piece of history. Isn't it amazing, holding something in your hand that old? Imagine who might have had that coin pass through there hand. Or the business transaction that it may have paid for? I can't wait to hold the 2008 St Gauden coin in my hand. In the meantime, I don't know if you saw this coin but, it's an 1800 year old coin I picked up this past summer.

You got my blood up with that one. I went to the dealer today with every intention of getting a coin from Constantinople I've had my eye on but the crafty bastage waved some ASE's at 18.40 under my nose.

Yep, all our stockings had a nice chink to them when shaken. Reminded me of silver bells. ;)

OK, here she is in all of her glory. Just made it to the post office with 10 minutes to spare. Snowing like a son of a bitch here. Unexpected snow storm, looks like 10-12 inches before it's done. Thank god we know people with snow blowers and trucks with plows on them. :5_1_120:

What years were no motto?

Re: In God We Trust vs no In God We Trust?

I believe all 1907 were no motto while the 1908 had both depending on the mint. You'll get a better explanation here.
